Youth Week 2018, April 16-20

Come pay us a Visit!

April is National Credit Union Youth Month, and at WRCU we are celebrating in style once again with Youth Week at all of the WRCU branches. This year’s youth week will run April 16th to 20th, and feature some treats and contests all week long in all of the branches. Every youth (under 18 please) who makes a deposit or opens a new account will receive an "official" WRCU Frisbee, (one per member please) and be entered in a drawing for a pair of day passes to the Upper Valley Aquatic Center We also have a grand prize drawing for a 2018 Vermont State Parks pass. This pass is good at all the Vermont State Parks for a vehicle with up to 8 people. All depositors and new accounts are automatically entered in the drawing.

This year's theme  is "The Science of Saving."

The "science of saving" means that it has been shown that when a child has a goal for saving, say, a new baseball glove or fancy phone case, then it is easier to focus on saving rather than just saving for the sake of saving. Once the saving habit becomes familiar, then just saving for an unspecified goal becomes easier.

Learning to save for what you want in life is a crucial life skill, but it’s one that too few young people are learning.

We are also hoping to present in some of our local school classrooms during the month of April, teaching about the basics of saving and how a credit union works. This way, when children grow and get some real money to handle and budget, they should have a basic understanding of how to manage their money.

Member education and concern for the community are part of the foundational principles of our business structure. Passing along a crucial life skill to the next generation to prepare them for a prosperous future embodies both those principles.

We hope you and your kids can stop by and help us celebrate Youth Week 2018 at your favorite credit union branch.
